LASG ASSURES RESIDENTS OF TRANSPARENCY IN ALLOCATIONS OF HOMES IN STATE-OWNED ESTATES


 The Lagos State Government has provided assurance to residents regarding transparency and fairness in the allocation of homes within state-owned estates. This pledge was conveyed by Mr. Kamar Owodiran Olowoshago, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, during a media briefing at the State Secretariat in Alausa. Olowoshago emphasized that the process of allotting homes to Lagosians will consistently adhere to a transparent protocol.

Acknowledging the continuous expansion of the state's population, Olowoshago noted that this growth has led to difficulties in accessing decent housing, especially foràaaaà individuals with low to medium incomes. Nonetheless, he affirmed that the state government's intervention has made a significant impact by offering subsidized homes within favorable environments.

He stated, "Through the provision of subsidized homes built by the state government in decent surroundings, a greater number of Lagosians can now enjoy the benefits of decent shelter." The Permanent Secretary highlighted that these subsidized homes can be acquired either through outright purchase or participation in the Rent-to-Own programs. The primary focus is on first-time homeowners who are prepared to immediately reside in the properties.

Olowoshago emphasized that the government's intention is not to cater to investors or property speculators. Henceforth, individuals who fail to take possession of their allocated homes within a specified timeframe will forfeit their allocation to the government. This policy aims to prevent homes from being unused while some residents are in need of suitable accommodations.

To ensure equitable distribution, Olowoshago revealed plans to implement online platforms for application submission. Open balloting will also be introduced to ensure that qualified residents have the opportunity to access homes without relying on personal connections. Eligible applicants include residents over 18 years of age with evidence of registration with the State Registration Agency, taxpayers, and first-time homeowners with verifiable consistent income.

Olowoshago disclosed ongoing construction projects in various administrative divisions of the state, including Ibeshe, Ita Marun Epe, Sangotedo Phase II, Ajara, and Egan. Additional initiatives are being developed to provide thousands of homes for workers, accompanied by convenient mortgage options spanning a ten-year period.

The Permanent Secretary emphasized the enhancement of maintenance practices within completed state-owned estates. This entails joint oversight by Facility Management Agencies, Resident Association Executives, and Scheme officers, who will collectively manage Estate Maintenance accounts. Olowoshago's final message conveyed the state government's unwavering dedication to ensuring transparent estate maintenance and improved service quality. He urged residents to trust the process, with the belief that it will contribute to the desired peace and progress within state-owned estates.
