Southwest Speakers Forum Meets in Lagos

In a significant gathering at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Speakers from the Southwestern state legislatures came together to deliberate on crucial matters concerning the region's progress. Hosted by Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the meeting featured prominent figures like Rt. Hon. Taiwo Oluomo of Ogun, Adebo Ogundoyin of Oyo, Adeoye Aribasoye of Ekiti, Adewale Egbedun of Osun, and Olamide Oladiji of Ondo. Behind closed doors, these leaders discussed a spectrum of topics, including the advancement of legislative principles in the Southwest.

During this meeting, Dr. Obasa highlighted the region's adoption of unified Business Rules and Standing Orders in the previous Assembly. They also tackled the upcoming election for the Conference of Speakers, where Ogun and Oyo had candidates. Additionally, they delved into the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), emphasizing economic progress and development. The discussion bore fruitful results, and plans for further deliberations were set in motion, all in the best interest of the Southwest.

Furthermore, the visiting Speakers expressed their appreciation to the Lagos lawmakers for their unwavering support of democracy, governance, and Speaker Obasa's leadership. They were deeply impressed by the legislative progress in Lagos, commending the State as a true "Centre of Excellence." Rt. Hon. Oladiji, a first-time visitor to the Lagos Assembly, found it a beacon of legislative success under Speaker Obasa. Rt. Hon. Egbedun underlined the Southwest's prominence in Nigeria's democracy and acknowledged Dr. Obasa as a respected leader.

Rt. Hon. Oluomo praised the Lagos lawmakers for their loyalty to Speaker Obasa, who had already made history as Nigeria's longest-serving Speaker. Lastly, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin expressed gratitude to Dr. Obasa for consistently sharing his knowledge and experience with the Southwest Speakers. In response, Dr. Obasa commended his colleagues in the Lagos Assembly, acknowledging their dedication, loyalty, and passion for legislative progress and the State's welfare.

Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara was born to Alhaji and Alhaja M. Ade. Kasumu’s family in Aiyepe Ogun State.
