Mayoress Of Ikosi Isheri LCDA Celebrates Senior Citizen in her LCDA on National day of older person

 











The National Day of Older People (NDOP-2023) celebration was a remarkable event dedicated to honoring and recognizing the invaluable contributions of senior citizens in our society. This year celebration Under the theme "Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Older Persons Across Generations,"  emphasized the importance of upholding the human rights of older individuals and ensuring their well-being.

The event was organised and facilitated for the senior citizens in Ikosi Isheri LCDA by the Mayoress Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada. Who also gave an insightful speech during the celebration, according to her, the significance of celebrating senior citizens and acknowledged the lifetime of hard work, dedication, and sacrifices made by older individuals in raising families and contributing to the nation's success in various ways is an important thing we need to do in our society. Princess Bada also shared her administration's remarkable initiative, some of which was highlighted as provision of food palliatives and cash empowerment to senior citizens on a monthly basis, provision of food packages and other items to the senior citizen during festive periods etc. She therefore pledged her commitment to further improving the well-being of older persons in the community.

Miss Damilola Grillo, a prominent Gerontologist and the Co-chairman and Coordinator of the Lagos State Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria, delivered the keynote address. Her speech emphasized the importance of recognizing and protecting the rights of older individuals in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She stressed the need for a collective effort to ensure that the rights and dignity of older persons are upheld, emphasizing that respecting these rights benefits society as a whole.

The NDOP-2023 celebration was a vibrant and inclusive event that catered to participants of all ages. Some notable features of the event included:

 Participants enjoyed a lively atmosphere with music, singing, and dancing, creating a sense of unity and celebration.

 A team of medical professionals provided free health checkups and consultations to older individuals, promoting their overall well-being.

Exercise sessions tailored to the needs of older individuals encouraged physical fitness, focusing on enhancing their health and mobility.

A variety of entertainment programs and cultural performances kept the participants engaged and delighted throughout the day.

Nutritious meals and refreshments were provided, ensuring that all attendees were well taken care of.

The NDOP-2023 celebration in Ikosi Isheri LCDA was a heartwarming and inclusive event that successfully highlighted the contributions and rights of older individuals. The dedication and commitment of the Mayoress and the presence of a distinguished Gerontologist underscored the importance of acknowledging and fulfilling the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for older persons across generations.   Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara was born to Alhaji and Alhaja M. Ade. Kasumu’s family in Aiyepe Ogun State.
