Residents of Ikosi Isheri LCDA Extend Appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Mayoress Princess Samiat Bada at the Launch of Ounje Eko Sunday Market in Ikosi Today

In a heartfelt display of gratitude, residents of Ikosi Isheri LCDA expressed their appreciation to the exceptional and intelligent Governor of the state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the esteemed Mayoress, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, for the successful launch of the Lagos State Food Discount Market, fondly known as Ounje Eko Sunday Market, in Ikosi Isheri LCDA today.

The Mayoress was ably represented by the Supervisor for Agric, Hon. Isiaka Gbadesere, and the Supervisor for Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Waleola Bello, to ensure orderliness and efficiency throughout the sales activities.

Security personnel from various agencies, including the police, Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Civil Defence, and LASTMA, were present to guarantee the safety and security of all attendees. Furthermore, the representative from the Auditor Lagos State Ministry of Agric is on the ground to ensure transparency and accuracy in stock quantity and sales auditing.

The market also benefited from the oversight of the Ikosi Isheri LCDA market officer, whose presence added another layer of organization to the event. Despite the large turnout, peace and order prevailed, indicating a well-managed and coordinated effort.

However, it was observed that there is a need for more awareness among community members to maximize participation and ensure the success of future markets.

In line with modern payment methods, transactions were conducted exclusively through digital payment platforms, ATM, and POS machines, with no cash payments allowed, promoting a cashless economy and ensuring convenience for both vendors and buyers.

A significant quantity of essential food items, including over 200 crates of eggs, peppers, tomatoes, tatashe, beans, bread, among others, were sold during the five-hour sales window, highlighting the market's potential to meet the diverse needs of the community.

The sales commenced promptly at 11 am and concluded at 4 pm, marking the beginning of a four-week journey aimed at providing affordable food items to residents while promoting economic growth and sustainability.

The success of the inaugural week underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Government to providing innovative solutions to enhance the livelihoods of its citizens.
