Breaking News: Court Grants Cubana Chief Priest N10M Bail Amidst Naira Scandal and Celebrity Currency Probe







In Lagos State's Federal High Court, businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, was granted bail of N10 million with two sureties of equal sum. During his trial, the celebrity bar man pleaded not guilty to allegations of tampering and misuse of the naira. Cubana Chief Priest faced three counts related to the misuse of the nation's currency, specifically for allegedly spraying and tampering with the naira at a social gathering, a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007. He was accused of spraying the naira at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024, during a social event. The charges, outlined in FHC/L/246/2024, claimed that Cubana Chief Priest tampered with funds in N500 notes during a social event in Lagos in January 2024, also violating the Central Bank Act. The EFCC disclosed its investigation into various celebrities for alleged naira misuse, stating its commitment to enforcing laws against such crimes. In a statement, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, revealed ongoing probes into celebrities' activities involving the abuse of naira notes. Many have provided useful statements, while others have been summoned for further investigation. The agency emphasized its no-tolerance stance against financial crimes, warning the public to abide by regulations regarding currency use. The conviction of popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, on similar charges served as a precedent, as he was sentenced to six months in prison. Cubana Chief Priest's case underscores the seriousness with which authorities are addressing allegations of naira misuse among public figures. The outcome of this trial will likely set a precedent for future cases involving the misuse of the nation's currency.
