Doing Good Senator Abiru Restored Hope in Lagos East: As He Delivers Landmark Empowerment Initiative, Lifting Market Women, Artisans and Vulnerable Residents Through a Triple-Impact Support Programme



In a remarkable display of grassroots-focused leadership today, Monday 8th December 2025, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing Lagos East Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Industry, and Other Financial Institutions, delivered a comprehensive empowerment initiative that resonated powerfully across his constituency.

Held at his constituency office at 68 TOS Benson Road, Ikorodu, the programme drew a diverse crowd—market women, farmers, artisans, people with disabilities, the aged, party youths, and other community stakeholders—each eager to benefit from the generous rollout of cooperative grants, empowerment tools, and a food support intervention designed to cushion economic pressures and boost local enterprise.

The grants, according to Senator Abiru, are structured to strengthen local cooperatives, enhance the financial capacity of small and micro-enterprises, and create sustainable growth pathways that help beneficiaries expand their businesses and stabilize household incomes.

Adding a practical layer to the initiative, the senator supervised the distribution of empowerment items ranging from work tools to productivity equipment—all tailored to meet the operational needs of artisans, traders, and farmers. The programme’s food distribution segment also provided essential relief materials to residents, offering immediate support amid ongoing economic challenges.

Beneficiaries across the district expressed deep appreciation.
A produce trader from Eredo LCDA, Mrs. Mariam Ogunbiyi, described the event as “a lifeline delivered at the right time,” noting that the funds would allow her to restock and stabilize her business after months of fluctuating market conditions.
Similarly, a young artisan from Lekki LCDA, Mr. Samuel Balogun, said the tools he received would “boost productivity and open new opportunities,” praising the senator for remembering both emerging entrepreneurs and established traders.

Overall, beneficiaries lauded the senator’s unwavering commitment, describing the mega empowerment drive as a clear testament to purposeful and people-centered leadership. Many noted that the initiative reflects a rare blend of economic stimulus, capacity building, and social welfare delivered in one coherent intervention. They emphasized that Senator Abiru’s consistency in rolling out impactful programmes continues to set a benchmark for effective representation across Lagos East.
